Description
The medal "For participating in the battles for Berlin" was established by the Sejm by the Act of April 21, 1966 to celebrate the victory over German fascism and the contribution of the Polish People's Army to the capture of Berlin in 1945. Pursuant to the Act, the medal was a recognition for people who participated in the battles for Berlin.The medal could also be awarded to persons who performed military service in the said period in the commands and staffs leading the fight for Berlin, as well as in the staffs and units of the Polish Army cooperating in the capture of Berlin. The medal could be awarded posthumously.
The medal was awarded on the basis of documents confirming the fulfillment of the required conditions, and the application for the medal was presented by a special commission appointed by the Minister of National Defense. Along with the distinction badge, an ID card was handed out. In the event of posthumous medal awarding, the medal badge and ID card were handed to the nearest family member.
