Description
A program for Norman Granz's 1948 Jazz at the Philharmonic concert tour, signed by all 10 of the performers on the bill, including Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins. This is the only fully signed JATP program we've seen, and it's exceptional. Each artist has signed on, or next to, their photograph, as has legendary promoter and record producer Norman Granz. Adding to the appeal, the signatures are all bold and undedicated.
In addition to Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins, the signatures include Parker's frequent band members Al Haig, Tommy Potter, Howard McGhee and J.C. Heard, Flip Phillips, Tommy Turk, and Norman Granz.
Singer Kenny 'Pancho' Hagood, who performed on occasion with Parker and was the first husband of Alice Coltrane, is not pictured, but has signed on the two page spread with most of the musicians.
While this tour took place during the Bebop era, just a year later Norman Granz took Parker into the studio to fulfill his long held desire to record with a string section, resulting in the classic albums
Charlie Parker with Strings
.
The program has been authenticated by music autograph expert Roger Epperson, and comes with his Certificated of Authenticity, as well as Recordmecca's written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
In excellent condition, with minor chipping to the edges of the pages, and a nearly invisible archival repair to the spine. 8 3/8" x 10 5/8".
An extraordinary jazz artifact.
