Volunteer Driving Squadron (Squadron of Hussars of Death) - a subdivision of the cavalry of the Polish Army of the Second Republic and the Army of Central Lithuania. The Death Hussar Squadron has never failed.
On July 23, 1920, during the Polish-Bolshevik war, the formation of a unit of the Volunteer Driving Squadron (it was the official name of this sub-unit) began in Białystok, consisting of two squadrons: mounted and on foot. It included soldiers of Major Jaworski's Ride and Tatar Driving Regiment as well as volunteers.
On July 30 this year, the unit underwent its baptism of war near the village of Dzierzbany. Two machine guns were obtained at that time, which gave rise to the formation of a machine gun squadron. The squadron was sworn in in Prostyń. On August 2, the unit was subordinated to the commander of the XXIX Infantry Brigade. On August 10 near Warsaw, a squadron of the Łódź horse police under the command of Commissioner Andrzej Jezierski was included in its composition. The next day, the commander of the 1st Army subordinated the squadron of Colonel Małachowski, commander of the "Zegrze" Group. On August 14, during the battle of Warsaw, the hussars were subordinated to the commanders of the 4th Battalion of the 157 Infantry Regiment and together with him for two consecutive days they fought at Nieporęt. On August 16, the squadron insured the 6th Infantry Brigade of the Legions over the Narew River, and the next day along with the air battalion manned the section "Beniaminów", to the road from the village of Borki. On the same day at noon, the squadron was subordinated to General Żeligowski, and in the evening under the village of Borki he charged with a half-squadron, as a result of which four Polish cannons with lizards were recovered. Near Minsk Mazowiecki, the squadron of the Łódź horse police was excluded from the squadron. On August 21 near Myszyniec, the squadron charged twice on Soviet rolling stock. During the second charge he won 9 cannons.
